Jen Chapin (@jenchapinmusic) in Patchogue Thursday, Manhattan Friday... Maine & Nova Scotia in August #music

June 25, 2012

Hey everyone!

I'm so excited to bring out the full 5-piece glory (featuring the great Dan Rieser on drums and Liberty Ellman on guitar, in addition to our core touring trio of Stephan Crump on acoustic bass and Jamie Fox on guitar) for two local shows next week -- one at a brand new venue added to the bustling scene in Patchogue, LI; and one at the very historic and super funky Bitter End in Greenwich Village, NYC!

Thursday, June 28th * 9 pm
89 North
89 North Ocean Ave., Patchogue NY * $10/$15
The lovely Cassandra House opens the show

Friday, June 29th * 8 pm sharp
The Bitter End
147 Bleecker St., NY NY * $10

As it turns out, my first gig in NYC was a benefit for WhyHunger at the Bitter End in 1995, marking the beginning of a great synergy between my musical and food justice activist lives. As part of the celebration marked by WhyHunger’s annual awards dinner this past June 13th (check out this powerful video featuring our grassroots honorees here), an online auction for many unique experiences and prizes is taking place now until June 28th. One of the items featured is a Jen Chapin Trio house concert. Speaking of house concerts, we just did a very special one hosted by our friend Ryan Simmons in Maryland, for which you can see some pictures at BonnieBranch.org.

Later this summer, the Trio will again ride north with young ones in tow to Nova Scotia, Maine, and more locations to be announced. And yes, we are way overdue for trips to the midwest and south, but I expect 2013 to bring some exciting trips as well as new songs..

Thanks for listening!

Jen

PS — My family, WhyHunger, and rock music recently lost a devoted and dear friend, legendary DJ and author Pete Fornatale. WhyHunger and WFUV will be remembering Pete this coming Tuesday June 26th at the Hard Rock CafĂ© in NYC, and I will be singing a couple of songs, accompanied by the wonderful Robin Batteau on violin. Tickets are sold out, but I encourage you to dig around for audio of his warm voice and insights, or check out his books. Pete represented the best of rock radio and spent his entire career in NYC, on WNEW, K-ROK, and finally back at WFUV where he had started as a Fordham University student DJ.
